The AMC AMX is a two-seat, GT style sports car that was produced by American Motors Corporation from 1968 to 1970. The AMX was the only American steel bodied two-seater of its time and stood as the first since the Ford Thunderbird of 1955-57. A very low production run with a total of 24 Right-hand drive 1969 model AMX’s that we’re hand assembled under license in Australia by Australian Motor Industries (AMI) between August 1969 and July 1970.

Australian examples differ slightly from the American versions with different outside rear-view mirrors, and black vinyl trim inside the “AMX” circle logo on the C-pillars. All the Australian AMX interiors were finished in black and featured unique seats, door panels, and a fiberglass RHD dashboard with a wood-grained instrument cluster. All the Australian versions were higher spec than US counterpart with a list of items that we’re optional extras in their home country. These slight differences and the very limited number of vehicles produced here make these very desirable collectors’ item here and in America.

This example made its way from WA in 2015 from a private collection of American Muscle. Prior to this, the vehicle underwent a masterful full-body restoration in 2000 to include a bare-metal respray as well as a complete mechanical overhaul on the engine and transmission. Fitted with a 343-cid AMC V8 that offers an impressive 315 BHP. A genuine muscle car this beauty clears 100 kmph in under 7 seconds and offers a balance of handling, power and driver comfort.

The interior of this vehicle is in beautiful un modified condition and present beautifully in black vinyl with contrasting timber inserts. Accompanying this vehicle are previous registration papers, photos of restoration both interior and exterior, receipts for works carried out and its 2003 American motor show winning trophy. Presenting immaculately, this trophy example is a true time capsule to its era and would make an excellent addition to any classic car collection.
